Biography: Mara Knopic’s fascination with film began at a young age when she saw The Silence of the Lambs and became transfixed at the acting prowess displayed by its leads. Throughout her childhood, film was celebrated in her home as a means of cultural connection through family viewings of movies such as Schindler’s List and The Ten Commandments during the Jewish holidays. Mara’s trajectory into the arena of film criticism is unique – she began her career as a nuclear engineer in the United States Navy for 6 years before relocating to Los Angeles. Over the last 6 years, Mara has continued to deepen both her love of movies and her knowledge of film’s technical components. As someone with both Arabic and Jewish heritage, Mara is excited to contribute to film discourse through the lens of her unique cultural perspective.
